The Center for Youth & Family Solutions

Our Mission

As one of the largest and most respected social service agencies in Central Illinois, the Center for Youth and Family Solutions (CYFS) engages and serves children and families in need with dignity, compassion, and respect by building upon individual and community strengths to resolve life challenges together.

Why We Serve

At CYFS, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to be safe and everyone should have access to the resources they need and professionals who can help them. Our team of compassionate professionals is committed to providing programs that support and strengthen families and children who have experienced significant trauma. Our purpose is to meet clients where they are and guide them on the path to successful healing.

Our organization is driven by a commitment to the well-being of the children and families in the communities where we live and work each day. When the greater common good is the goal, we believe our wonderfully diverse and ever-changing society can overcome complicated challenges together.

How We Serve

We approach our work using four interconnected pillars that make our service delivery unique and our programs successful: family-centered, inclusive, trauma-responsive and strengths-based programming, services, and interventions.

The four “FITS” pillars of CYFS align with our agency mission and values, and they are evident in how we serve individuals and families, how we find solutions, and how we interact with one another.

Family Systems

We share an understanding that the family system is central to a person’s development, identity, and relationships and therefore is always considered and integrated in our work.

Inclusivity

We embrace and value the distinctive skills, experiences, and perspectives of everyone involved; working actively to remove systemic barriers, challenge inequities and ensure equal access to resources and opportunities; and we thrive when everyone’s voice is heard and their contributions are valued.

Trauma-Responsive

We recognize that often behaviors and symptoms can be the result of traumatic experiences and we promote environments of healing by infusing and sustaining trauma awareness and knowledge into our agency culture, practice, and policies.

Strengths-Based

We affirm that every person has inherent worth – identifying and building upon strengths to build resilience and empower people to be their best, both with our clients and with each other.

Our Programs

Our programs and services are designed to build up people's resilience and coping skills, improving their overall well-being, strengthening their family system, restoring hope, and helping them be well and thrive.

At CYFS, we celebrate the inherent value in diversity, and we are committed to nurturing and preserving a culture of inclusion and connectedness.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement

Our mission calls us to embrace and respect individual differences and unique life experiences, including but not limited to age, race, sex, culture, ethnicity, citizenship status, religion, ability, economic level, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. We encourage all at CYFS to lend their voice, commitment, and intentional focus to ensure that we provide an environment of equity and inclusion for all and that we are committed to listening, admitting our shortcomings, learning and celebrating our successes together.

  • Affirm all people by exhibiting cultural competence and responsiveness in all interactions – leading with compassion and in the spirit of cultural humility in all we do
  • Champion equity, diversity, and inclusion as it is inherently connected to our mission, and critical to ensuring the well-being of our staff and the communities we serve
  • Create and maintain physically welcoming, trauma-informed, inclusive work environments, which reflect the diverse populations we serve
  • Expand diversity in those we hire, those in leadership, our volunteers, foster families, and our boards
  • Consistently follow a nondiscriminatory approach to hiring and provide equal opportunity for employment and advancement in all of our departments, programs, and worksites
  • Develop and implement on-going equity, diversity and inclusion training and professional development opportunities for all staff and demonstrate commitment to such ongoing learning and growth
  • Review, revise and establish policies and procedures which positively impact equity, diversity, and inclusion and transparently keep our workforce informed of these policy changes
  • Examine our practice and outcomes from an equity lens, explore underlying assumptions which interfere with inclusiveness, and engage in continuous learning and ongoing improvement
  • Identify disparities in access to services that impact those we serve and advocate for lasting change
  • Collaborate and partner with other organizations who share our commitment to social justice and our goals for equity, diversity, and inclusion
